Cpl Hedger

A North Hayling family of 8 brothers, two of whom – Edward and William – served in the Boer War. The Hedgers, of Tye Farm, were active in the community centred around St Peter’s Church and Institute. Mrs Hedger helped with the Red Cross during WWI.

A son born to brother William and Beatrice Hedger in 1916 was named after his late uncle. William was treasurer of the memorial fund and Master Keith Hedger subscribed 2s 6d in 1919. 'Master' Keith Hedger lives locally and served in the Royal Navy in WWII - see Peter Bowers and Ernest Twine. Another brother, Alfred Gladstone Hedger, was killed after the hostilities had officially ceased.
