Corporal Hector Leslie Reed PO/X 1682
HMS 'HOOD', Royal Marines
Son of former Sergt-Major Albert William George Reed, R.H.A. And Mrs Clara Reed, of 3, Legion Road, Hayling Island, Hector was a member of a large family including Martin Donald (also included in the booklet).
All attended Hayling C.E. School. Clara was mid-wife on the Island and Albert an amateur painter, painting the whole wall in the British Legion with tiny chickens and being bought drinks in lieu.
The Reeds were a sporting family, playing cricket, golf and also boxing and Hector won sporting trophies for cricket. Mr Lew Wakeley, near Manor Farm was a friend of Hector’s youth.
